Walk through our laptop or PC sections and you’ll see a lot of products tagged (Open Box) alongside the brand-new ones — often at a noticeably lower price. That label can mean different things at different sellers, so before you decide whether an open-box buy is right for you, it’s worth knowing exactly what we mean by it.
What “Open Box” means at Mega Computer
An open-box product is a genuine, unused or barely-used item whose original retail packaging has been opened. The seal is broken — but the product itself has not been used as anyone’s daily machine. There are three common reasons a product ends up in our open-box section:
- Customer returns within the return window — someone bought it, changed their mind on a colour or model, and returned the unit unused.
- Ex-display units — a model that sat on a showroom shelf or our demo table, opened to be shown but not used as anyone’s primary computer.
- Repackaged retail-channel stock — products whose outer carton was opened upstream of us (transit inspection, customs, or distributor checks) and then resealed.
Every open-box unit that gets listed on megacomputer.pk has been inspected, tested, and graded by our team in Karachi before going up. If it doesn’t pass, it doesn’t get listed.
What you actually get
- The same hardware and specs as the new version. Same processor, RAM, storage, GPU, screen — we don’t downgrade open-box units.
- A discounted price — usually below the new price for the same configuration. The exact saving is shown on each listing.
- The original accessories — charger, cables, manuals — though they’re occasionally repackaged rather than factory-sealed.
- Warranty terms exactly as stated on the product page. Some open-box units carry the original International Warranty; some are sold with our Official Warranty; a few used items are sold without warranty (clearly labeled). Full breakdown on our Warranty page.
What’s different from a brand-new unit
- The outer box may not be factory-sealed. Where the seal is broken, we say so.
- Accessories may be repackaged rather than in their original plastic.
- The serial number may have been previously registered — this only matters for International Warranty, and we flag it on the listing when it does.
We don’t sell refurbished or repaired stock as “open box.” Used / refurbished items live in their own section with separate condition notes.
